What Is THCA?

The short version: THCA is what the hemp plant actually grows, and THC is what it becomes when you add heat. Everything else about potency, legality, and drug tests follows from that one fact.

The acid form of THC

THCA stands for tetrahydrocannabinolic acid. It's the raw, naturally occurring cannabinoid in fresh hemp. The living plant barely makes any THC at all. It makes THCA, and THCA carries an extra chemical group that keeps it from binding to the receptors in your brain the way THC does. In its raw form, it won't get you high.

Heat changes everything

Apply heat and THCA sheds that extra group and becomes THC. Chemists call it decarboxylation. Everyone else calls it "using the product." A vape cart, a dab rig, a lighter: any of them converts THCA to THC on the spot.

That's why we're blunt about it on every page: used as intended, THCA products are potent and intoxicating. The "A" is not a loophole that makes the effect milder. Treat a THCA cart or dab with the same respect you'd give any strong THC product.

THCA vs. Delta-8 and the synthetic stuff

THCA is what the plant makes. Most Delta-8 and similar novelty cannabinoids on gas station shelves are converted from CBD in a lab. Will it show up on a drug test?

Assume yes. Once heated, THCA is THC, and your body processes it the same way. Standard urine tests look for THC metabolites and won't care where the molecule started. If your job tests, don't use THCA products. There's no trick around this and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.

How to dose it if you're new

• Carts: one short pull, then wait ten minutes before deciding on a second. Effects come on fast with inhalation but people still overshoot.
• Dabs: start with a piece the size of a grain of rice. Concentrates are the strongest format we sell.
• Always: don't drive, don't mix with alcohol, keep it locked away from kids and pets, and skip it entirely if you're pregnant or nursing.
